On first glance it may appear that the PlayUp is vastly superior to the Play360, but there are many aspects to consider when deciding between the two devices.

When looking at price, you would be able to get the Play 360 for roughly half meaning it might me more appropriate for the price cautious

Let look at the hardware first, the Play 360 has more of a squared circle appearance while the Play Up has more of a cup shape with the top being round.

The Play 360 has a soft flat top while the Play Up has a convex top with logo and volume keys at the top

For easy access the Play 360 has the NFC sensor on the top which makes it easy for tap and go connectivity

The PlayUp switches the position of the NFC sensor and the volume keys.

The NFC is easy to activate on the Play 360 as it is on the top, sometimes it was hard to activate it on the PlayUp as it was hard to line up the phone NFC with the PlayUp’s NFC

The positioning of the volume keys on the PlayUp is much better than the Play 360 as it seems more natural

Looking at the rest of the device the Play 360 has grills all over that makes it look better than the plain-looking PlayUp

Both devices have Bluetooth connection button and status light at centre front. While the Play360 has the battery status at below the Bluetooth indication, the PlayUp has it in the middle of the volume keys which is arguably better as it’s more likely to be seen

Both have identical side air vents and back power button, charging port (MicroUSB) and 3.5mm jack for connecting a device directly.

When comparing weights, the PlayUp feels considerably heavier at 760g compared to the 514g of the Play360

Things get different when you flip the device over, while the Play360 has a screw to cover the battery, the PlayUp is much more clever.

The PlayUp has a twist\turn bottom once you remove the cover to reveal the battery you find out that its hiding a 3.5mm cable, this is great news if you want to connect a non-Bluetooth device or just want to save battery life on your device

When the devices are on they differ slightly I found that the PlayUp was easier to establish a Bluetooth connection without NFC, for example it found my Lumia 800 instantly while the Play 360 has a bit of trouble. While the NFC on the Play360 refused to work on a HTC One XL, the PlayUp had no problems.

If you have 2 Play 360’s you are in for a treat as they can work in stereo which is a great way to fill a room.

Even though the PlayUp does not support stereo it has other features under its sleeve such as AptX which enables higher quality Bluetooth streaming, it has a higher dB output at 89 compared to the 75dB in the Play360 and a stronger power output at 3w compared to 2.1

When comparing the sound it is evident that the PlayUp has a much stronger sound, this is clearest when you listen to bass heavy songs which a high volumes sound tinny while on the PlayUp they sound more natural

You sacrifice battery life at the end of the day with the Play 360 having roughly double the battery life

At the end of the day there are three things you need to consider: Price, sound quality and how flexible you want the device to be

If you look around you could possibly get 2 Play360’s for the price of 1 PlayUp, with that you get stereo sound and double the battery life plus its more portable.

If you have an old device, it is less important to get the PlayUp as the sound might be similar.

If you want a powerful sounding device that works well with all new devices get the PlayUp, but that being said you can’t go to wrong with the Play 360 either you just lose some of the extra powerful sound that the PlayUp provides.

People might think that you can not theme MeeGo, but thanks to several developers out there it has been possible for a while

Simply download Theme Settings app  (theme wont work without it)

MeeGo offers far greater customisation than Symbian but there is currently no easy way to create themes for MeeGo

When i first got this device, i was surprised to see how big and heavy it was, it weighs over 500g and is as big as an outstretched hand.

What you get is, NFC, BT, AUDIO-IN, it works great on battery or connected

It uses BL-5C battery that is screwed in (standard screwdriver) at the bottom of the device.

The device itself is simple, a Bluetooth button on the front bottom which changes colours and is used for status and pairing the device.

Volume up and down keys, and power, charging and audio in.

It has an air vent at the bottom side of the right.

Sound comes from the top of the speaker, with a NFC panel at the front top of the device.

The N9 paired within seconds via NFC which made connecting it seamless, audio flowed several seconds after

At first audio quality didn’t seem good, but i found the secret was to have the Play 360° at maximum volume and control the volume (if possible) from the device.

I found doing it that way, made it sound better with far more clarity and base.

I found the device to have much better quality than the MD-7W, it could be used further and sounded just as good with any device i tested with it.

The rechargeable battery meant it could be used for a very long time and could be easily replaced or charged.

When you have two the real magic starts, they talk to each other and define which is the right channel and which is the left, it fills up the room with surround sound, if you thought one had amazing sound wait until you hear the sound from two, its breath taking.

Although $150 is a big ask for a speaker, it does offer alot of value for money, and the sound quality alone is worth it.
